Psalm 35 - 38

Begin your day by reading Psalms 35 - 38.  Pray for God to open your heart and mind and to hear and receive the words you are going to read. Take the next couple of days to catch up, read, and reflect.  As I read the Psalms over the last week, two words have popped out: Delight   and   Commit . Why are those words important?  In Psalm 37 we see an interesting Psalm that contrast someone who believes and trusts the Lord with someone who does what they want with no regard to God or anyone but themselves.  The psalm calls them the righteous and the wicked.   As we read, we can probably picture in our mind modern day examples of the same acts/people today.  How many times to we read or see stories of so many bad things happening? Psalm 28 - 34

Have you ever made a decision without seeking the guidance of the Lord? Sometimes we make a rush decision and think this is the best decision for me...only to learn that we "screwed up" and need help.    Today's reading includes Psalms 28 - 34, but today I am going to focus on Psalm 34. When we look at the background of this Psalm, we see that King David himself made a foolish decision (without seeking the Lord) that seemed good at the time, but quickly found himself is a bad predicament.  Let's see how David handled a situation that all of us find ourselves in.  This Psalm comes from a period in David's life where King Saul is trying to kill him. So David takes refuge among the Philistines in Gath.  For those of you that don't know your Bible history, the Philistines were not our friends.  It would be like an American going to Russia during the Cold War to hide out for a while.   But soon, David realizes his plan was not working because the serva...

Psalm 1 - 9::Reflections

Some days I think back to my childhood. Yes, I was a child that grew up in the 80s, so right there are some happy thoughts. But I also remember a time where I did not have to worry. My parents loved me, provided for me, I had great friends, and not much else to worry about. I just trusted and believed that all was well. Then we grow up! Everything that we believed in without a doubt, we now question. We now have worries. Will I have enough money, a job, will my kids be safe, is this world safe? And yes, sometimes we even get mad at God and question Him, doubt Him, and walk away from Him. In Psalm 8, God reassures us that we are his most valuable creation. In Psalm 8:2, we are reminded of the power of the praises from our children. Remember that childlike faith we had growing up? The praise of a child is pure and powerful. Children don't have the barriers and walls that we build up that keep us at a distance from God. Rejoice when you are praising with children. Welcome them...
