Psalm 35 - 38

Begin your day by reading Psalms 35 - 38.  Pray for God to open your heart and mind and to hear and receive the words you are going to read. Take the next couple of days to catch up, read, and reflect. 

As I read the Psalms over the last week, two words have popped out: Delight  and  Commit.

Why are those words important?  In Psalm 37 we see an interesting Psalm that contrast someone who believes and trusts the Lord with someone who does what they want with no regard to God or anyone but themselves.  The psalm calls them the righteous and the wicked.   As we read, we can probably picture in our mind modern day examples of the same acts/people today. 

How many times to we read or see stories of so many bad things happening? When you watch the news, it is usually the lead story or headline.  Then at the very end, we have the feel good story.   The story to give us hope that all is not lost in this world.

This is where delight and commit are important.  In Psalm 37: 4-5 David tells us to delight in the Lord and commit everything to Him.  When we delight in something, we celebrate something that gives us great joy.  To commit to something means we turn over our desires and control to something else.  In this case God. Give control to Him and delight in your relationship with God. If you only run to God when things are bad, you will never had a relationship you can delight in. 

How many of us have friends that only call when they need something? They are never around any other time.  Do you delight when they call you?  Probably not...  

But when you are with that person all the time and build a relationship, you get close.  You delight when they call for no reason other than to talk.  You also delight when you can help them.  A relationship with God is just the same. He is always there.  

Every night when I walk, I delight in the time I have to talk to God.  The last several nights there have been beautiful sunsets to delight in.  Those are the pictures I have been sharing. It is hard to delight in the Lord and commit to the Lord when it seems like everyone around you is winning by not following God. But those people eventually fail. God takes care of them.  And then we see the best story at the end.  The feel good story.  Your story about how God carried you, provided for you, and was there for you because you took delight in the Lord and committed to Him. Take delight and share your story with others.
